SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

 

Mr. Smith has extensive experience as a structural engineer working with federal, state, local, and private clientele.  As a Project Engineer, Mr. Smith has designed, repaired, and retrofitted steel, concrete, and masonry structures.  He has performed forensic analysis of structural failures, completed engineering system studies, prepared cost estimates, and acted as a project manager.  He founded Civilsmith Engineering, Inc. in July of 1998, and he and the employees of the company have since specialized in the design and detailing of architectural and structural precast concrete buildings and components.  He possesses extensive experience with the following codes: BOCA, Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, ADA, AISC, ACI, AITC, NDS, PCI, and TMS. 

 

Total Precast Occupied Housing Structures

 

Ramapo College—Mahwah, NJ

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturers for design and detailing of this 102,000 sq. ft. dormitory facility with eight elevated levels of precast floors and roof, completed in Summer of 2004.  This project won the McGraw Hill Award for total precast structure for 2004.  This project was unique in that we designed for three precast manufacturers on the project, one for the deck members, one for the exterior architectural precast, and one for the interior walls.

 

The Roosevelt—Jersey City, NJ

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturers for design and detailing of this 161,000 sq. ft. housing facility with eight levels of elevated precast floors and roof, scheduled to be completed in Fall of 2005.  This project had thin set brick and limestone coynes, sills, and heads.

 

Structural Precast Concrete Experience

 

Blair County Stadium Parking Garage—Frankstown Township, PA

 

            Structural engineer for the owner with the responsibility of designing the cast-in-place concrete foundation system and precast concrete structural members for this 90,000 sq. ft., three level parking facility for use by the adjacent Lakemont Park and Blair County Stadium.

 

Lackawanna Avenue Parking Garage—City of Scranton, PA

 

            Designed and detailed the brick-faced precast concrete cladding for a five story parking structure in downtown Scranton.  The brick-faced panels are pre-stressed and comply with seismic criteria for Seismic Zone 2.  Also performed construction support services for the precast concrete manufacturer, The Shockey Precast Group.

 

Court & Anderson Street Pump Stations—City of Hackensack, NJ

 

Designed and detailed insulated precast concrete shear wall panels and pre-stressed concrete roof plank structures for precast concrete manufacturer.  All panels were structural and erection was completed in winter of 2000.

 

NJIT Parking Garage Expansion—Newark, NJ

 

            Designed and detailed precast concrete panels for two-story vertical expansion of an existing six story parking structure.  Ramp panels were used as post-tensioned slab jacking bases in addition to guide rail parapet design.  Exterior panels were guide rail parapets and facade.

 

Rappahannock Building Parking Garage, Fairfax County, VA

 

            Project detailer of architectural and structural members for the precast concrete manufacturer on this 130,000 sq.ft., four level parking facility which utilizes interior ramp panels and stair towers.

 

Control Tower, US Airways Express Terminal F Addition at Philadelphia International Airport

 

            Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of the precast concrete control tower.  This three cell precast concrete structure measures 400 sq. ft. in plan and rises 120 ft. and was constructed in sixteen lifts, with lifts connected by grouted reinforcing bars.

 

Navy Federal Credit Union Headquarters' Parking Structure—Vienna, VA

 

            Provided structural component design review for the precast concrete manufacturer on this 300,000 sq. ft. parking facility.

 

HPR Training Facility—Lititz, PA

 

            Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of a 54 ft. high conical entrance tower to the facility.  This self-supporting structure was composed of 1 ft. thick panels that were designed for erection in two lifts with load transfer to the foundation for seismic loading.

 

Stile’s Parking Garage—Gaithersburg, MD

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 257,000 sq. ft. parking facility with five levels of elevated parking, completed in Fall of 2001.  This facility included two large stair towers placed at acute angles to the garage and several angled corners to for spandrel bearing.

  

Mountain View Corporate Center Parking Garage—Baskin Ridge, NJ

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 45,000 sq. ft. parking facility with two levels of elevated parking, completed in Fall of 2001.  This facility was designed to accommodate one additional level of parking.

 

Towson University Parking Garage—Baltimore County, MD

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 200,000 sq. ft. parking facility with five levels of elevated parking and three connecting pedestrian bridges, completed in Summer of 2002.  

 

 

 

 

 

Pace University Parking Garage—White Plains, NY

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 42,000 sq. ft. parking facility with two levels of elevated parking, completed in Summer of 2002.  This facility was built into an adjacent embankment and designed to accommodate large lateral soil loads in the lateral stability system.  In addition, this facility was designed to accommodate one additional level of parking.

 

Nittany Parking Deck Expansion—University Park, PA

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 180,000 sq. ft. parking facility with five levels of elevated parking, completed in Fall of 2002.  This facility is an expansion to an existing six level parking facility and required coordination to match the existing cut limestone reveal pattern and intricate coping details.

 

Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh—Pittsburgh, PA

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this two elevated level 85,000 sq. ft. parking structure.  The garage was unique with regard to the roof because it was topped with soil and landscaped as a green space for the hospital.

 

Morgan State University—Baltimore, MD

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 175,000 sq. ft. parking facility with five levels of elevated parking, scheduled to be completed in Fall of 2005.  This project linked to a student center, for which we designed and detailed the auditorium risers and stairs.  The garage has an ice making facility in the basement and chiller equipment on the top level.

 

Ikea Parking Garage—Paramus, NJ

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 430,000 sq. ft. parking facility with two levels of elevated parking, completed in Spring of 2003.  This project has numerous pedestrian bridges and is, in reality, four independent structures.  This project utilizes precast moment frames and shearwalls in a dual structural system.

 

BARTA Parking Garage—Reading, PA

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 55,000 sq. ft. parking facility with one level of elevated parking, completed in Winter of 2005.

 

One Spring Street Parking Garage—New Brunswick, NJ

 

Structural engineer to the precast concrete manufacturer for design and detailing of this 120,000 sq. ft. parking facility with seven levels of elevated parking, to be completed in Spring of 2006.  This garage was designed to flow into a twenty-two story apartment complex, with one fifth of the garage in the building.  This garage also incorporates a retail space at street level, an enclosed pool on the roof of the parking garage, and a play area on the roof with a landscaped area.
